What are Specified Skilled Workers?
Specified skilled workers are foreign nationals who possess certain skills in demand in Japan. These workers are eligible for a new residency status that allows them to work in Japan for up to five years. This program is designed to address labor shortages in specific industries, including nursing care, construction, and hospitality.
The Specified Skilled Worker program is a system introduced by the Japanese government in April 2019 to address the shortage of skilled workers in certain industries. The program allows foreign workers to work in Japan for up to five years in 14 different sectors, provided they meet certain criteria and pass the required tests.
